Our commercial key cutting machines permits rapid duplication of metal keys, the prototype of these machines were first invented in the United States in 1917. The process has not changed, the key to be duplicated is placed in one vise and the blank key to be cut in a corresponding vise under the cutting disk.
For a standard type of cylinder key it takes less than a minute to cut, it takes a little longer for mortice keys, the most amount of time is identifying the correct key blank.
